| David Garman has a PhD and MSc from the University of Sydney and an honours degree from the University of London. He has worked in academia, in the NSW public service (pollution control and water resource management) and in private industry for 10 years prior to joining the CRC for Waste Management & Pollution Control in 1996 where he was executive director for over 10 years.
David is now an Executive Director of the Environmental Biotechnology CRC, which develops technologies based around enhancing molecular methods of naturally occurring organisms, mainly covering biofilm control, pathogen detection and control and biotransformation and bioremediation.

| He has extensive management. technical and policy experience in terms of resource development and resource management in all aspects of pollution management. He is Chairman of an Australian publicly listed company specialising in water environmental technologies.
He advises a number of research and water authorities world-wide on research, water resource and pollution control matters. Dr Garman is currently president of the International Water Association, who have kindly allowed us to reprint the following interview with Dr Garman from their journal.
